さて、なんのために安くするのか

先日のこのエントリに続いて、本の価格について考えたことを書こうと思う。が、結論が出ていない上にえらく漠然とした話になってしまう。

まずは、未公認なんですぅさんのエントリ「本の売価ってやっぱり『高い感じ』がするんじゃないの」が参考になるので先にご紹介。

で、紹介した後でえらく漠然としたことを書くよん。
まずは、本が安くなるという事に関して。

１・再販の価格設定が安くなる
２・再販がなくなるか緩くなるかして、店舗が値下販売を出来るようになる
３・その両方

この三パターンがあらぁな。
もうひとつ、安くするとして、いったい何のために安くするのか、ということ。

何のために安くするのか。奇麗事はひとまず置いておく。安くすることで利益がそれまでより増大することを期待して値下をするわけで、つまり、安くした結果利益が減っただけに終わりましたというのでは、経営が苦しくなるだけでなーんの意味も無い。

さて問題。安くしたら本の売上は上がるでしょうか？

この問題の正解が「上がる」だったら、みんなハッピーなのよね。
でも「変わらない」が答えかもしれない。以前、煙草の値上げを例にとって、同じく嗜好品であることが多い書籍についても、売価の上げ下げの効果は出にくいのではないか、なーんてことを書いた覚えもあるね（笑）。もちろん素人考えですがね。

さて、というわけで、私は値下をしても売上高は変わらないんじゃないかな、と漠然と思っているわけですよ。
でも値下できる体制は整えた方がいいと思ってるのね。上に上げた三択で言うと「２・再販がなくなるか緩くなるかして、店舗が値下販売を出来るようになる」の方向で。いや、３でもいいんだけど。

で、ここでちょっと待てという話になる。その方向で値下を出来るようにしたとしてだ、利益は増えるのか？　利益が増えなければ意味が無いんだろ？　ってな具合だ。

そうなんですよ。利益が増えなければ意味が無いんですよ。
逆に言うとね、「売上高」が増えなくても「利益」が増えれば何の問題も無い。

と、ここまで読んでくれた人は「ああ、なんだその話か」と思われる方もいるのではないだろうか。そう、利益を増やせばいいんだ。
利益を増やすにはいくつか方法があらぁな。

・売上を伸ばす
・コストを削る

では、コストを削ってみよう。さあ、材料費は削った。人件費も削った。流通コストは多分これから削る（笑）。じゃあ後は何を削る。
在庫ですな。

在庫を減らすにはどうしたらいいか。

・作り過ぎない
・余ったら売る

シンプルですな。
売るにはどうしたらいいか。
値下すりゃあいいんだよ。

待った。そんなの、本屋が損を被るだけじゃないか。だったら、余分な在庫は返品して済ませますって。
うん、だからまずそこをなんとかしないといけないんだろうなあ。
結局、流通をいじらずに値下だけしても、誰かが損するだけで終わっちゃうんだろう。

以上で、漠然としてなおかつまとまりの無い話はおしまい。

追記：羊堂本舗さんから文中リンクしていただいているのを発見したのだけれど、あの引用のされ方、切り取られ方は、なんか誤解されている予感。
「再販がなくなったら自然と新刊書店の利益は増えますよ」なんて主張した覚えはないんだけど（笑）。
新刊書店全体の利益を増やすには流通と在庫の効率化が必須で、そのためには再販含めた現在の書籍流通は非常に邪魔臭いとは思うけどね。
言い方を変えると、再販がなくなっても効率化を図れないところは、リングに上がった曙太郎並みに速攻で潰れていくんじゃないの？　そしてその後にもっと要領のいいところが進出して利益を生み出す、と。
現在の書店業界って、外から見ると非常に非効率的に見えちゃうしなあ。
