さあ、90年代の音楽シーンを作り上げた偉大な人物の一人、ALIの待望のソロ作。
音的には、在りし日の（3rdアルバムまでの）A TRIBE CALLED QUESTの音でもなく、ましてや後期のATCQを若干乗っ取り気味に彩った、Q-TIPやJAY DEEの高度に洗練されつつも無機質なサウンドでもなく（いや、こっちの音も好きだけどね、俺。なんだかんだ言うても“Amplified”は名盤だと思うし）、LUCY PEARLでの活動の延長線上にある感じ。
ATCQ時代は、サンプラーをまるで演奏するかのように使いこなした彼だけれど、今作では生演奏も多く導入し、R&Bとの親和性の高さを改めて示している。
そうだよな、考えてみりゃあD'ANGELOによるR&Bを変えた一曲“Brownsugar”も、ALIのプロデュースなんだよな。
いや、勝手に「きっとALIは完全裏方モードに入っている感じのアルバムなんだろうな」と思い込んでいたのだけれど、なんと17曲中9曲でALI自らマイクを握っております。ラッパーとしての腕前は、まあ、PETE ROCKと同じくらいうまい。推して知るべし（笑）。ただ、個人的には嫌いじゃないですな。声がいい声してるんでね。元相棒のPHIFEと組んで２MCの掛け合いでもあったら嬉しかったんだけども、さすがにそれは高望みか（笑）。
それでもやはりボーカリストを迎えた曲のほうが印象には残る。
個人的なベストは、Stokey Williamsをボーカルに迎え、なんとAmp Fiddlerまでピアノで参加してしまった“Put Me On”。
ALI本人がラップしている曲だと“Banga”が一番ファンキーで好き。
でもなあ、スムースでなおかつ濃密なグルーヴ感を湛えた曲をこうもそろえられるってのは、やっぱり貫禄ですな。
なーんか、気がつくとアルバム通して聴いていて、しかももう一回プレイボタン押しちゃうのね（笑）。お気に入りです。
